Marine Corps Museum everything you need to know

Everything you need to know when visiting the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico Virginia! And why it is one of my all time favorite museums ever.

The hours

They are open daily from 8-5, except Christmas but both the Mess hall and Tun Tavern Restaurant (highly recommend) close at 4pm, dont be caught hungry like us!

Location

If you travel the 95 often, you can’t miss the incredible sword like building projecting over the highway. Half of the wonder of the museum is that actual architecture of the building. Well done and thought out, very visible from the highway and the all windown exterior ceiling gives great light to the exhibits.

Outside

There are many exhibits outside of the building that pay honor and tribute to fallen marines. Be sure to follow the paths outside the museum to see those memorials.

Park

If the kids need a break from all the exhibits and need to get the wiggles out, there is a park on the right side of the museum as you face it, shaded by the trees, perfect spot to eat lunch too if you bring food. No food is permitted inside the museum other than the two restaurants offered.

Our Favorites

The boys especially love the “making marines” experience, do not miss that walk through part of the museum. They can hang on pull up bars, get “yelled” at by the drill instructors and follow in the yellow foot prints. They also have a rifle range exhibit the kids could try their hand at too.

For me, it’s the very very “real” looking war and marine in -action exhibits true to era that put this musuem at the top of my list. Every scene feels like you are there and the faces, perhaps someone you may have known, as they are modeled after real live marines. Take a look at these life-like scenes:

For the littles

A new to-me exhibit is the toddler area called the “children’s gallery” do not miss this if you have littles. It is enclosed, so they can not escape and everything is scaled down to their size to try on and experience. It’s extremely well done and my little toddler, Shiloh loved it.

Also, not to be missed is the art gallery on the second floor and upcoming is a brand new exhibit featuring the Marines experience in Iraq and Afghanistan.
