Martins beach, San Francisco bay area’s best kept secret

Our third time to the San Francisco area had me googling “off the beaten path” things to do in the San Francisco bay area. Google did not fail. A beach day was in order following our city trekking and I stumbled upon jaw-dropping images of a beach with a past, Martins beach in Half moon bay. Let me explain.

The beach had been closed, but lucky for us is now open to the public! Read more about that sordid tale here. Back to us, though. As you can see by the images, this California beach was deserted. I repeat. Empty. Those majestic rocks all to ourselves, the green shrubbery with perfectly bloomed wildflowers, ours alone. I could have cried of joy. The beauty of this place is hard to capture in words and camera frames. But here is a couple attempts.martins beach half moon bay

Along the majestic cliffs you’ll find a fews homes and even a cafe! (though it was closed) Perfectly picturesque and perfectly empty! Once the word gets out this secret beach won’t be empty for long. Californians know beaches and fill them!
Good news you’ll be equally enamored with the drive through Half moon bay getting there, a seaside town I could easily live in….vineyards, farms, historic boutique downtown, with the absolute best clam chowder San Francisco has to offer.half moon bay new england clam chowder
Martins beach, you are unforgettable, thanks for the memories, beauty, and spoiling us rotten for one of our best beach days yet.
