Osaka Japan Dotonbori, Universal Studios, and Nara

Did this trip solo with just me and the boys for Spring break! We had a great time, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss my husband. You do not want to view the super romantic cherry blossom season in Japan without your loved one. Completely magical. Having mostly experienced cherry blossoms in the Washington D.C tidal basin and here in Okinawa means driving to certain spot and viewing said cherry blossom blooms. In Mainland Japan, they are everywhere, I repeat everywhere. It is spell-binding and not to be missed. Btw, Korea and China also have a similar timeline for cherry blossoms so you could totally see them in those countries as well. Cherry blooms on the Great Wall, yes please! Tucking that idea as a high probability for next year.

We did 4 days in Osaka, arriving in the afternoon and leaving in the evening allows touring on those travel days too, win win. Grab the printable for our Osaka recommendations here-

Our Itinerary:

  • Day 1- Arrive-Dotonbori Street Food at night/ Must eat- Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki, Grilled crab
  • Day 2 Universal Studios
  • Day 3 Train Ride to Nara & Osaka Castle
  • Day 4 head home

Things to note, traveled via taxi cab or train ride (grab the ICOCA reloadable train ticket) to get to all the places! Stayed at the Bon Apartment, booked last minute on booking.com and enjoyed the location in a quiet spot, close to food and train stations! Personally Loved Dotonbori, Osaka Castle, and Nara the most, but my kids loved Universal Studios even with all the line waiting!
