My favorite thing about the Christian life is the great exchange that takes place between us and Christ. Essentially we trade our rags for His riches, our sin for His righteousness, our weakness for strength. This concept continues to baffle and surprise me in the best of ways. Considering the ever looming sadness the seems to be my constant companion I take comfort in these words from Isaiah:
“To comfort all who mourn and provide for those who grieve in Zion, to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor. ” (Isaiah:61:2-3)
The amazing duo, Shane and Shane have penned a song out of this beautiful concept click Here to listen to them sing these words:
Beauty for ashes
A garment of praise for my heaviness
Beauty for ashes
Take this heart of stone and make it Yours
I delight myself in the Richest of Fare
Trading all that I’ve had for all that is better
A garment of praise for my heaviness
You are the greatest taste
You’re the richest of Fare
Dear friends, I am partaking in the richest of fare today, the only food that truly satisfies and am so thankful.
