School’s out, and my favorite season is here, SUMMER! But I’ve got a 15, 10, and 1 year old to keep busy!! I’ve been researching all the Summer fun things to do around Northern Virignia and there is a ton and even free things like the Washington D.C Zoo and all the great parks including splash pads. Here’s the list I’ve come up with complete with links and a downloadable checklist to check off. Time for Summer fun!

Washington D.C Zoo
This is FREE, so it’s a must plus you get easily get there via the train system all through out the Northern Virignia area, open from 8-4 so plan accordingly. Information here!
King’s Dominion/Soak City
The pass for King’s Dominion is well worth it plus Soak city too! We go often and wear the kids out perfectly.
Library
Our local library is full of book clubs, story hour, and fun summer games and challenges for the kids! Great spot to visit especially on a rainy day!
Washington D.C Monuments
Just a walk around the D.C mall is all inspiring with all the monuments and history plus that merry go round! Bonus the historic memorial buildings make the perfect backdrops for family photos.
Smithsonian Museums
The strip of Smithosonian museums could keep your kids busy all summer long. Easy access via the metro and do check their site for special exhibits and events! We are also checking out the Bible Museum too!
Virginia Beach
It goes without saying that the beach and Summer are synonymous! Virginia Beach offers all the fun from their promenade, restaurants, water parks and gorgeous beach. Fredericksburg Timeless Ticket
The Fredericksburg timeless ticket gets you a pass for all of fredericksburg’s historic spots in one pass! Historic places like the Mary Washington House, Kenmore, and George Washington’s Ferry Farm! Go here to learn more and grab a ticket, such a great deal.
Skyzone Trampoline Park
Rainy summer day? Skyzone trampoline park is the perfect way to get all the energy out. You can grab a 3 month pass for a great deal!
VBS
Check your local church for the VBS week, such a wonderful way to spend the week, our lives our changed every single summer by this free God-honoring event.
Marine Corps Museum
The Marine Corps museum hands down one of the best museums in the area, not to be missed. Also be sure to grab lunch at the Tun Tavern restaurant and don’t miss the great park outside.
Local Pools and splash pads
There are an abundent of parks with splash pads to cool down at this summer and best of all they are FREE! Here’s some of our favorites free ones: Riverfront park, Springfield our special harbor splash pad, Fairfax old town square
Strawberry Picking
Our local favorite farm, Braehead farm is hosting strawberry picking this summer! Head here for more info!
Summer Concerts
Summer concerts are back on and the full list of who’s coming and playing in Washington D.C is here! Also, check out Wolf Trap (outdoor amphitheater) schedule here! We’ve got our eyes on possibly a Shawn Mendes concert! Also, of note is the Will Graham event June 25th, totally free Christian concerts, find out more here!
Old Town Alexandria
So much to do and see here. Easily one of my favorite places in Virignia after living here for a couple years. Grab the trolley to get up and down them main street (King Street) and be sure to walk along the waterfront! Tons of restaurants and shops, check out their family friendly activities here!
Mt. Vernon
This place is a must see in Northern Virignia, the grounds are stunning and so is the history. Check their website for special events!
Marine Corps 8th and I parade
This is the most spectacular show and it’s FREE. Every tuesday and friday night during the summer from 7-8 you can catch the Marine, click here for dates and more details!
Fredericksburg Fair
It’s no secret that fairs are my favorite, you can count on us being front and center at our local fail! I’m hoping to offer summer mini sessions there too, stay tuned!
