Here’s the how-to for how I cheated my way to roman shade bliss. The purpose of these shades in my dining room were two fold; something pretty and something to cool down a room with six windows during summer heat! The supplies are simple: bamboo shades {home depot}, substantial fabric, spray glue {home depot}, and glue gun. Here’s the steps:
A few cliffnotes, I did not glue fabric all the way to the bottom because it won’t be seen and was expensive fabric. The hardware that comes with shades is pretty self-explanatory in terms of hanging just be sure to NOT cover the slits at the top with fabric otherwise you won’t be able to hang them! Hope this helps anyone interested in trying, hoping to post my finished dining room next week.

This is great!! Even though I love roman shades, one of my pet peeves is that they look great from the inside but not from the outside. A realtor would say that they "compromise the curb appeal of the house" :-). Bamboo shades are a better option for sure. Thank you for this tutorial. Your shades turned out great!

Ok, I'm not the brightest cookie in the jar, so don't laugh at my questions but do you completely glue the fabric to the blinds? How does it make the pleated look? Maybe I'm just not getting it. I really want to make some for my great room since it's west facing and gets blistering hot in the summer! Perfect solution!

hey this is BRILLIANT! I can sew, but sewing Roman shades looks unbelievably complicated, so wow! I love what you did. And those shades are sooooo cheap at my Home Depot. We just hung some outdoor ones on our balcony to block some hot sun – I blogged about it and some curtains I made. Now I want to put that curtain fabric on Roman shades instead.
