Fredericksburg Va weekend trip to Williamsburg Va

Wiliamsburg Virginia is the perfect quick weekend trip from Fredericksburg Viriginia with kids. It’s literally only an hour and half and with minimal traffic because you get off the 95 about halfway down, phew. With a new baby in tow, I need quick, easy and minimal, I tell people I’m a first time Mom becuase that’s what it feels like with a 9 year gap between my second and third! Here’s our simple itinerary from Fredericksburg va to Williamsburg in a short weekend: Walk around Colonial WIlliamsburg and hit up the Mardi Gras festival during March at Busch Gardens day two!

Here’s the key- we went during the off season which made both Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens almost empty! Praise Praise for no crowds or lines. Down side to off season is some rides at Busch Gardens were closed but going during their Mardi Gras celebration made up for the lack of rides with all that jazz music and free beads!! Highly recommend. Also, remember Military Get in free once a year, go here to sign up for that perk.

Colonial Wiliamsburg:

Family friendly eats: D.o.g Street Pub, Mellow Mushroom, Food for Thought, Duck Donuts

Activites: walking around the colonial homes! Also, because it was the tail end of winter for us, the kids got to ice skate which was way more fun for them then admiring colonial architecture!

The next day at Busch Gardens was the dreamiest, although a big chilly, the Mardi Gras festival had the park decked out in all the best New Orleans has to offer. I have a soft spot for all things New Orleans, check out this post from back in the day, quite a God miracle occured there. The jazz music and amped up shows around every corner made this mama happy. Only two rollercoasters were open, but the boys rode them again and again with no lines, seroiusly the best.

Stay: Homewood Suites Williamsburg, offering full family suites, with kitchen, and indoor pool within just a mile of Colonial Williamsburg.
